With cameras allowing us to catch unexpected moments that are worth filming and the internet giving us the ability to share these clips, many are often able to see what is going on around the world with the click of a button. From car crashes to close calls, the internet has it all. However, one video clip that was recently broadcasted on ABC 7 WWSB shows footage from a gas station video surveillance camera that will leave you absolutely stunned.
The gas station, which is a Marathon Extra Mile located at 105 Jack’s Place in Flowood, MS, captured a white compact sedan that appears to be speeding down Old Fannin Road towards Lakeland Drive. The driver of the vehicle seems to lose control of the vehicle and that is when it skids sideways into an embankment. The car then goes airborne, flips, and lands between two fuel pumps. And what’s even more shocking is that there was no fire as a result of the accident and the woman who was driving the car managed to get out and walk away on her own. She was transported to the hospital, however, as she did sustain minor injuries.
Did you know that during the summer months more drivers are prone to speeding?
According to survey findings which was conducted by Wakefield Research but released by Hum by Verizon, “80% of respondents think drivers are more likely to speed during summer than any other season.” The survey involved 1,000 U.S. adult drivers ages 20 and older and was conducted between May 7th and May 10, 2018. Some additional findings from the survey include:
- 41% of drivers struggle to stay focused during the summer months.
- 81% of millennial drivers struggle to focus while driving during the summer.
Aside from an increase in reckless driving, motorists also tend to experience more tire blowouts and engine failures during the summer months over any other time of year, according to Michael Maddux who is the vice president of product at Verizon Connect [Source: PR Newswire]. The truth is, the summer time is a peak travel season and with more vehicles out on the roadways, the more likely it is for an accident to occur.
Now is the time to take precautionary measures that can help prevent an accident.
There are many gadgets that are now available to help reduce the chances of a driver engaging in an accident this summer. One of those gadgets is the Hum, which is only one of the many types of technologies available to motorists that is geared toward making your drive a safer one. Hum “helps predict potential issues, prevents breakdowns and offers protection when problems do arise.” The gadget is compatible with more than 150 million passenger vehicles starting with those that were manufactured in 1996.
Something else we can’t stress enough is that you need to inspect your vehicle along with your tires every so often to ensure they are properly inflated and can handle the drive.
