Actress Gwyneth Paltrow along with several others are being sued by a man from Utah after an alleged ski accident occurred back on February 26, 2016, that him seriously injured. ABC News reported that Terry Sanderson, who was 69 years old at the time, is a retired optometrist who is claiming the incident has caused him to suffer in more ways than one. The lawsuit alleges that Paltrow and her ski instructor, Eric Christiansen, were heading down a slope at Deer Valley Ski Resort when she crashed into the back of Sanderson, falling on top of him and “knocking him out.”
As a result of the impact, Sanderson was knocked down and then left at the scene of the accident. The lawsuit claims neither Paltrow or Christiansen attempted to help the injured man and instead, “got up, turned, and skied away, leaving Sanderson stunned, lying in the snow.” The ski resort also failed to take any sort of action such as calling emergency responders out to have Sanderson’s condition assessed. Sanderson believes Paltrow was “skiing out of control” and was distracted which is why the accident occurred. The lawsuit, which has named Paltrow, Christiansen, Deer Valley Resort, and two other employees as defendants in the case is seeking $3.1 million in damages.
Sanderson is seeking such a large sum as he claims the accident has left him with a “brain injury, four broken ribs, and other serious injuries.” A rep for the Hollywood star has spoken out regarding the recently filed lawsuit and is calling it “meritless.” The lawsuit was filed in the 3rd District Court in Summit County, UT and you can expect that a more in-depth investigation will need to be conducted before any rulings are made on the case.
